Legends of Amun Ra: The Emerald Tablet Book Review
What can I say about Legends of Amun Ra: The Emerald Tablet besides “what a great book”. I could not put it down. I love sci-fi/fantasy books like this one. It reminds me of a series I read as a child of a little boy who is transported to another world and he has to collect keys from his ancestors. I love a great back story and Leoros has that in spades. I knew by the blurb I would like it because it gives you hints at what will happen like they will be betrayed by someone they trust and love a mentor to the assassin's blade. It makes you start to look out for things and it gives each scene more depth when you are worried about what is coming next. There is darkness in everyone and that makes this story all the more suspenseful.
Egyptian mythology is my second favorite behind Greek and Joshua Silverman includes aspects of both in his book. Silverman gives the reader an old fashioned battle of good and evil with well thought out characters and cunning plot twists. There are many graphic scenes that will leave you gasping. I almost put it down after reading the first few disturbing paragraphs but then I got into it as everything started to make sense. Each of the main characters had their own trials and had to overcome and that is what I like to see in a story. I hate when characters are unrealistic even in a ‘fantasy' setting. Everyone should have to learn and grow to become who they were meant to be good or evil and both Leoros and Gem prove that to be true.
