I always get kind of paranoid when my son leaves the house for a run with his ear buds. I get it, Matthew needs to have some music to help pump him up and keep him going when the going gets tough. But I worry about his ability to hear cars, other pedestrians, and his awareness of his surroundings. And he gets frustrated with having to deal with the wires, and how often they earbuds come out, especially when he works up a sweat.
I got the opportunity to try out the new AfterShokz Trekz Titanium, so naturally I passed them onto my son and asked him to give me a thorough evaluation, The Trekz are ingeniously designed to fit OUTSIDE the ear canal, leaving your ears open and free and able to take in your surrounding. They use a brilliant bone conduction technology to bypass the ear canal and send sound through the bones next to your ears, which in turn carries to the inner ear. Matthew can run and listen to his music and still hear everything around him!
I have to admit, I've swiped them a few times myself to use. They're incredibly comfortable and durable, resting gently just next to my ears. It's super simple to connect them to Bluetooth, so listening to music and taking calls is effortless. I can walk in the neighborhood or at the park and not feel cut off from my surroundings while I listen to an audio book or take a phone call. They have a really clever voice prompt system called Audrey that walked me through how to use it, which was SUPER helpful. The noise-cancelling mike meant my mom could hear me loud and clear, even if I was next to the playground where children were playing.
Matthew has been running with the Trekz for two weeks now, and he raves about them. Even as hot as it has been here in Alabama (think 98 degrees and like a billion percent humidity) and as sweaty as he has gotten, the Trekz haven't even so much as blinked. They are designed to resist icky workout sweat- as a matter of fact, they're IP55 rated to repel sweat, moisture and dust. Which they do really, really well! If they can survive teenage workouts in southern summers, they're about bomb-proof in my book! Their titanium frame is flexible and has survived living in my overcrowded purse for two days, and a solid drop to the sidewalk after Matthew was taking them off post-run. The charge lasts a good 6+ hours and only takes about 90 minutes to charge fully- but I've found in a pinch a 20 minute charge will get Matthew through a run no problem.
I'm so thrilled with these Trekz that I am offering a pair here as a giveaway! Just enter below for your chance to win! Also be sure to check them out on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and you can subscribe to their Youtube channel for more awesome products and news!
